TN (Laid Off) --> TD/B2

Hi,

Looking for advice.

My wife and I both have separate TN visas through our respective employers. I was laid off, and the 60 day grace period will be ending in about 10 days.

1) Do I need to change my status?
2) If yes, are TD and B2 the only two options? Which option is most cost-effective and the fastest?
3) If TD, is a trip to the border required? With my wife or without?

1. Yes, you are out of status in 1o days.
2. Do you have a job? if not, you can only switch to B2 or, in your case, TD -- which would be best.
3. No, you can file I-539 by mail, or go to the border your self, with a copy of your spouse's TN I-94 and recent paystub (just to prove ongoing TN)
