Social Security for H4 dependents

I am on H1B and children on H4. Can I get Social Security card for
my elder two children as they are going to University next year.
Without social security card they have to pay the fees of a foreign
student.

Any thoughts. Thanks

Did you not apply for a tin #. Those who are on H4 are given tin #. This is as good as SS #. Only difference is tin # does not permit you to work. Correct me if I am wrong. I too have a boy who will be finishing school next year. Are students on H4 visa not treated as regular students? please give me more details or any website where I can learn more.

I contacted several universities, they say the student need to have a social security card to get regular fee or else they will have to pay a foreign students fee. I did not apply for a tin#. What tin stands for. What is the procedure to apply. please explain.
 
TIN # is given to people who cannot be given SS #

You go to your local INS office and they will guide you.
 
If parents work and pay taxes why children pay intl student fee??

Thank you. My question is that, are we not eligible to get our children normal lower fee as other GC holder children as both me
and wife have been paying taxes years in H1B status.
