Side projects while on TN status

Hi,
I'm Computer Systems Analyst.

I was told by the Chamber of Commerce in town that I'm allowed to start my own business as long as I keep my TN status & pay any taxes.

I originally submitted that question to the Department of Commerce and got response from the Chamber only, so I need a second opinion: Am I entitled to start my own IT company as TN visa holder?

Thanks to all who contribute and keep this forum up & running!

Yes, but each client you do work for needs to have a separate TN.

How does that apply if the client is located in Canada or overseas (remote work)?
It seems to me that they couldn't submit a visa petition because they are not in the US.

Thanks again.

Remote work, under very strict circumstances is permited, as long as neither you nor the foreign firm is benefitted from your being in US. Otherwise, even a foreign comapny would have to sponsor you for a TN, likely for a US client.
