As mentioned on this thread, if you renew your TN status via regular mail, your TN is extended up to 8 months until the new TN is being processed ( i believe the average time frame is around 2-3 months). If you apply and its taking long time to process and your driver license expires, how do you get your driving license extended? they look at your i-94 to grant you you your license, will they do a temporary extension based on what i tell them?

That depends entirely on the state regs, which differ greatly. But there have been reports here where a TNer had to go to border to get immediate I-94 in order to get DL renewal. That would be my expectation for states that make I-94 and DL expiry concurrent.
And just to be clear, the TN is NOT extended 8 months, you are in an up to 240-day grace period, in which your status is TN-pending, which, of course, means nothing to your I-94 or to the DMV. So, essentially, last minute mail-in TN renewals make DL renewal very difficult.
