My Situation:
H1 receipt, AP (with EAD and I1485 receipt ) in USA and Canadian landing papers.
My Landing Port:
Windsor/Detroit, MI
My Landing Encountering:
(only happened to me, may not apply to other people)
I took Greyhound bus to Detroit and needed to be transferred to Canadian Greyhound Lines there. Detroit Greyhound bus station, located by the MGM Casino in downtown Detroit, is very clean and orderly, at least in the daytime. The bus driver checked every passenger\'s legal paper before letting anyone aboard the bus to Canada. When he saw my landing paper, he refused to accept me and said he would wait me for a long time at the
Windsor port for the landing process. I immediately went out and asked which TAXI driver could take me to Windsor Canadian immigration Port. One TAXI driver was willing to do so. He asked for $50. I guessed that I could haggle the price. I did not have the courage to do it then. The Canadian side of immigration office was not busy. It did take me about 20 minute to go through both the immigration and custom inspection. Then I walked to Windsor, a very small city in any perspective. Later, I thought that I could have asked the Canadian Greyhound driver drop me off the immigration station and do not have to wait for me.
Returning to USA:
My friend drove me through the Ambassador Bridge to Detroit. After stopping at the U.S. immigration inspection booth, we sat in car and met the immigration official sitting in the booth, like a highway toll booth. I handed in my passport and Advance Parole paper, with the page of passport turned to where my original visa and I-94(my original and latest one)stapled. This immigration official carefully examined all my papers and asked me questions such as "where are you going?", "what are you doing in the U.S.". The whole process took about 3 minutes.
