hi All:

my mother stayed from Sep-Mar (180 days) in US holding a B1/2 visa to help take care of our new born son, now we would need her help again, her visa is valid till Jul this year

questions:
  • Is there anything we can do to help chances of her stay length this time (knowing she almost used up all 183 days in first stay)
  • can we have her visa extended after she enter US, and will that extension have any impact to future visa grant

A1: No genuine visitor should spend more than 6 months in the US during any rolling 12 month window
A2: Yes a visitor may request an extension of stay

183 days?
Stays are generally granted for max 180 days. Previous max stays invite rigorous questioning at next entry.
Extension requests are usually only approved for extenuating circumstances; you can try. Way you described the situation, your mom basically wants to live here on a B1/2.

I am assuming she is helping with the new born...if you do not want to jeopardize her chance of visiting USA in the future, do not let her overstay.
