Questions about filing I-130 and I-485 concurrently

I'm going to file I-130 and I-485 for my parents. They are now in the US as B-2 visitors. Can you help me with a few questions?

1. Their 6-month B-2 visa will expire in 2 months. I can apply extension for them which would give another 6 months. But the I-485 won't get approved before their extension expires. Will their stay be legal then?

2. Some people said the INS may make the adjustment of status more difficult if applicants have had visa extensions. Does anybody have had such experience?

3. Can I file I-130, I-864, and I-485 all at the same time to the INS district office in Kansas City? or do I have to file I-130 and I-864 to the INS Service Center in Lincoln, Nebraska?

4. Has anybody filed the petitions on their own without any lawyers? I don't know if I have to find a lawyer to do the green card for my parents.

Thanks a lot.
