Question Expired passport and OPT/H1B

I am in F1 status but I also have form I-589 pending which means I am an asylum seeker as well. My passport expires next month.
Since I am seeking asylum from my country's government I don't want to renew my passport. My question is:

will my F1 still remain valid? and will I be able to get OPT or H1B with an expired passport because I am an asylum seeker?

I know if I renew my passport, my asylum application may or may not get denied IFFFFF they schedule an interview for me. Any thoughts or suggestions?
 
You don't need a valid passport to stay in the U.S. Your duration of stay is determined by your I-94 (and since you're in F-1, your I-20).
