All,

Need some advice. Am a US Citizen (Naturalized Dec 2000), wife got GC (March 2002), 2 kids born here, am being sent overseas on a posting, not sure for how long as yet.

Want to know, when will my wife be eligible to apply for Citizenship? Anything to watch out for?

Any information will be appreciated

thanks!

If your wife leaves the country for over a year get a reentry permit. If she is absent for over 1 year then the time between 2002 and 2004 does NOT count... She can apply 4 years and 1 day after she reeenters..

Best thing is for her to visit the country once every 6 months, to preserver her Continous Residency

I was under the impression that spouse of a US Citizen is eligible to apply for USC after 3 years.....why does she need to wait for 4 years and 1 day?

Thanks.

Actually, you are right.... Sorry bout that..

She would have to wait 3 years after reentry.... Not 4 years

Gurus, Does she still credit for the time spent as resident
before she leaves for over a year ? I think not, what do u think

The period of residency has to be continuous,
She cannot be outside of the country for more than 3 months in a year if you are going to use the route of 3 yrs of GC since marriage to a US citizen.
