Leaving for a vacation while on TN

Can I go to see my family in Canada while on TN? or do I have to bring any documents to the border?

Of course you can

just to add, once you have gotten the TN, you should be fine with just showing CBP your I94 (with TN authorization) upon re-entering the US. No need to carry docs etc
