. Landed in Windsor from US but I-94 taken

Guys,
I landed in Windsor today and the Canadian Immigration officers took away my I-94. I plan to commute to work everyday in Detroit under H-1B. Will I have any problem crossing the border to get to work??? Do I need to get a new I-94??? For your information, I only have the I-797 approval notice and the I-94 that the officer took was a tear-off from the I-797 approval notice??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
How can canadian officials do that

From what I gather, they r not concerned with your I94s. Did u have that in the passport. U shd have taken that out. How did u go. (Car / Air)

you will be ok. Trust me.
What you need to do is next time you cross to US border from Canada, show them the original 797 approval notice and ask them to give another i-94. Tell them that you had given your i-94 to canadian immigration officers by mistake.
As long you have 797 approval notice, they will give it to.
