Hi,

I am a physician working on J1 visa stamped from my home country (india). I got the initial stamp for one year (currently expired)but I have got all other papers renewed. If I were to accept an offer to go to a foriegn country for a conference will I have to get a new stamp and can I get it from the country I am going to of will have to go to india first?

yes, if your visa has expired, you have to get a new one. Yes, you can try to get it in the country where your conference is.

you have to get a visa from your home country first because you are unlikely to get a visa from the country of the conference without a valid US visa to re-enter.

my friend got it in England where she was for a three-day conference. Got her UK visitor visa, and then got a US J-1 visa while in England.
