Is online OPT staus update reliable?

I have a reciept date of 25 August 2009 on the receipt from texas service center. Its been almost two months now and the status is still " under review" . I was told by some friends that the online status is not relaible and does not also reflect the actual staus of the case. Is this true? Has this happened to anyone that the case staus online is pending and the card is approved already. I have requested to expedite the OPT on 15 october and i was told that they will let me know in 7 days. ( no reply yet from TSC) I am very worried now since i had to start my job october 1st. Is there any way i can get this done faster?

You have to renew it fast.
 
does anybody have an idea how long approval of EAD takes at Nebraska service center? I am (or was) F-1, got my notice on June 29 2009, check was cashed July 1st, "case is received and pending".
I had an offer enclosed with the application and still waiting. Immigration counselor at my Uni didn't submit it as expedited, saying there is no starting date on the offer. The company which wants to employ me is saying: it's against their policy to include the date.... like a vicious circle!
