Income Source for the Interview

I married a US citizen in oct 99, I applied for the adjustment of status in jul 2000 in MD (at that time my wife was sponsoring me). I got the EAD and later I got a job in the high tech area in MA. My wife stopped working and I became the support of the family. We got our interview date for January 2002, but I was laid off weeks ago. My wife is pregnant and can not work. I made more than enough when I lost my job. We already submitted all the information regarding the three years of taxes and valid income for the last three years, but the question is: HOw important is to have a job at the time of the interview?

We also have enough saving to live without an income for a year.

Thanks
