  • The congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV) makes available up to 55,000 diversity visas each year, drawn from random selection among all entries to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. DVs are apportioned among six geographic regions using regional limits determined by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) according to a formula specified in Section 203(c) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Within each region, no single country may receive more than seven percent (or 3,500 DVs) of the available 50,000 DVs.
  • The regional limits in all six regions have been reached. This is based on the number of applicants who have been scheduled for their initial interview, now through September. Those applicants who do not appear or return to overcome a refusal during the original month of interview are at serious risk of a visa number not being available.
  • All DVs must be issued by the end of the fiscal year (September 30) and it is not uncommon for the allotment of DVs to be exhausted earlier than expected. :D We strongly encourage you not to finalize arrangements for travel to the United States, dispose of properties, or resign from your job until a visa has been issued and delivered to you.
  • Selectees for DV 2014 who do not receive a visa prior to September 30 may enroll again for the DV 2016 program in the fall of 2014. :p
