My company is now sponsoring my green card since my H1-B is expiring. They are paying the legal fees but state that it will be reported on my W2 [box 12 beside the relocation expenses] as taxable income. I don't want a huge shocking tax bill in January.
Has anyone ever claimed this income as some sort of tax deduction such as business expenses ? Since without the green card I won't be earning US wages and paying US taxes at all that there would be some sort of deduction.
