German and American Citizenship

Hi,

my dad is an american citizen and my mom a german. I have the german. Now I wanna get the american too. So that I have both, the american and the german. But nobody can tell me how I can get this. Either the germany nor the americans knows if this work and how. My question. Does anybody knows how can I make this and where can I get (means on which office or government)
