I received GC an year ago, down sizing is going on at our company. If they let me go, it may take some time to get a job, can I claim unemployment insurance? or just forget about it to avoid issues when filing for citizenship.
Green card holders are eligible to collect unemployment, as long as they meet the same criteria that citizens in their state have to meet (length and type of employment etc.). And it doesn't affect your citizenship eligibility or make you a "public charge".
