Hi,

I'm on a TN Visa in US and am a Canadian citizen. Can i bring my car from Canada into US (New york) and drive there.

Am i able to drive for 3 yrs?
Do i need registration of New york or can work based on Canadian registration?
Do i need new york license plate or Canadian?
Do i need to import my car in to US at the border?

I called New york DMV and they told since I'm on a temporary basis I can drive as long as I want, the officer would respect my canadian license and vehicle. However, when i check their website, they mentioned something about a resident who is staying in NY for long er than 90 days - for this the person should get NY license after 30 days of becoming resident.

Any idea or links will be helpful.

Thanks
Pranav.

You need to import the car formally, which will require as a start, a letter from the CDn car maker saying you meet NHTSA requirements, and you will need to get NY license, NY plates, NY insurance: you are moving to US. CBP.gov has all the info you need.
