Convert B to L visa

Hi,
I am currently holding B1 visa. My company wants me to move to US for long tern assignment and will be processing L1 visa. Is it possible to first travel on B1 visa and then convert it to L1 while in the US?

My wife also holds B1/B2 visa. She need to travel with me and need to convert her visa to L2 when my L1 is processed. Is there any problem with this?

Yes it is possible. However wouldn't it be more convenient for you to enter with an L-1 visa itself? You will have the freedom to travel in and out of the US in that case.
