Hi, my boyfriend is currently a PhD student and holds an F1 visa. We have been in a long distance relationship for two years now and are trying to find a way to be together. Our idea is to get married and change his F1 visa to a J1, which would allow me to seek employement in the US. However, we've read somewhere that an officer might refuse his request if they suspect the primary reason for his visa change is to allow me to work as his J2 dependant. Is this true? Does anyone have any experience with this procedure? Thank you in advance.
