Affidavits for visitor visa - stamp paper or not?

I would like to get my parents here on visitor visa (b-2).
Pl. let me know whether the personal affidavits for parents should be submitted on Stamp paper?
Also, should it either be notarized or attested by a magistrate?

In US, documents are typically sworn before a notary. What is the
similar authority called in India?
