Affidavit Of Support.. Help Pls

HI guys,
I am about to send my forms.. where do i make the i-864 fee to? Department of Homeland security?
I am confused.. did i even need to make a check out for the affidavit... It says "Although USCIS does not charge a fee for this form, the Department of State does charge a fee of $70 when the Affidavit of Support is reviewed domestically." on USCIS website..
but i read in someplaces that you don't need it..
Please help so i can send them out today...

did you send it as a separate check (for the I-864)? If you send the total amount as a single check, they might return the whole packet (485) and you will have to re-send it. They will return the check if you send it separately.
 
I also had the same question, that is when to send the 70$, so do you know if DOS asks for the money once they get the affidavit of support?
