Academic O1 - difficulty?

Hello,

We are in the process of applying for an O1 for my husband who is a former Fulbrighter from Europe. He is currently employed at a major research university in the midwest (has been for 1.5 years). We were just wondering the level of difficulty in obtaining an O1 relatively early in one's academic career -- he does currently have publications, articles written about his work, etc...

Any advice/success stories would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I should have clarified in my email... of course his employer is applying on his behalf. Do you have any info as to my original query?
