Parents GC; Before or after Citizenship?

Hi,

I recently got my GC and want to know if I should file GC for my parents before I get the Citizenship or after. And also what is the procedure to apply for GC for parents.

You can file only AFTER you get your citizenship. YOu need to file I-130. If they are in US, you may also file I-485 concurrently.

Just curious, am I restricted by law or is it better to file after citizenship?

\By law. A green card holder cannot apply for parents.

After 5 years you can apply for naturisation. It will take over a year to process, Then once you are a USC you can apply for your parents.

Got my green card in 1997 - I applied to naturalise in July 2002 - still waiting for interview. Nothng with the BCES is quick. 0h - apart from taking the fees.

It is frustrating but hopefully eventually all will be fine.
