H1 transfer question -- urgent!!!

Could you kindly help me answer couple questions
related to H1 visa? My current status is H1, but will
be laidoff by the end of May. So I am looking for a
new job now. The questions I am asking are:

1. If I find two jobs. The first company has applied
H1 visa for me. But I prefer the second job. Can the
second company apply another H1 for me before the
first one is approved? If yes, which one will be
effective?

2. I will leave my current company by the end of May.
If one company apply the H1 transfer for me before
June, and I do not want to begin the new job and stay
at home in couple monthes (assuming I receive the H1
transfer receipt), is my status still legal after June
and before I begin the new job?

3. since I will be laidoff by the end of May, when
will be the last day of my legal H1 status? If I apply
two weeks vation time without pay after layoff day and
HR agrees with it, does it mean I can extend my H1
status two weeks?


4. If I transfer to H4, then I find company A, can I still do H1 transfer application after I left my previous company?
