Finally an answer about carrying the GC

From the link http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/howdoi/PermRes.htm

"While that does not require that you have on your person at all times, it does require that you have a currently valid card and that you know where it is and can show it to an immigration officer, if requested. "

This answers a question which was floating in this board for months about taking the card always with you or not. So it seems pretty clear that one doesn't need to take the card or the passport always "in the pocket".

My 2 cents.

The paper to which my card was glued states that I must carry my card when in the US. Typical contradiction.

Question on what to carry

I have a stamped passport, but not yet received my pastic card. In this case, what should I carry to prove my immigration status if I travel to a different state? Before I-485 approval, I was told by my employer to carry the EAD all the time. Do I always keep a copy of I-485 approval notice with me? What have you guys done before getting the pastic card?
Thanks,

****,
Are you suggesting that one should carry passport all the time or when travelling out of state only?
