What questions are likely to be asked at POE?

What questions are likely to be asked by officer at POE if one enters US with GC in following situations,

A. Being out on travel for vacation - 1 or 2 months

B. Being out for 3 to 6 months.

C. Being out for more than 6 months but less than 12 months.

Please share your experiences at POE.

Thanks.

I just got into SF, and I was asked:

- How long were you gone? (20 days)
- How did you get your CG? (Employer-sponsored)
- Name of company?
- Do you still work at the same company? (Yes)

Then he asked me again if I was gone for under a month, and I replied yes, at which point he stamped my passport and let me go.

It seems like they have another set of questions for people who stay out > 1 month.

Try to avoid San Francisco or Los Angles. Big cities are tougher. They might give you trouble even if your entry was legitimate.

Once you absence is over 3 months but less than 6 months, be prepared that you might go through more stringent screening.

Some attorneys suggested that, in case if you are not working for the employer that sponsored your green card, you always bring the supporting document (e.g. layoff letter) when entering to prove to INS that you did not intentionally quit the job shortly after getting the card.
