Help: 6months or 1 years for re-entry permit

Hello, any one out there:

I have one quick question. I have GC and is planning to go back to my home country for less than one year but more than 6 months. Do I need to apply for re-entry permit?

My lawyer's letter said I need to apply for reentry permit. All my friends told me that I need to apply for reentry permit since I am leaving for more than 6 months.

However, I find no legal grounds for this 6 month timeframe. My GC approval notice states that you should only apply for reentry permit if you plan to travel abroad 1 year or more. I go to INS website and take the eligibility test and it says that if I only travle abroad less that one year, then I don't need a reentry permit.

So, who to trust? What should I do?

No need for re-entry permit. But return after >6 month
is seeking re-admission. You should oroally
convince the INS that you did not abondon your
residence in the USA and submit yoruself to
those admissibility criteria (criminal background,
polygamy history, totalitarian party association,
prostituon, public charge etc).

You also need to convince the INS not to re-set
the clock toward citizenship
