Expired I-94; Valid H1 approval.
My friend's J visa got expired in July 2002. His i-94 also expired in July. He got a new H1 approval (before J's expiry) valid for 3 more years. How long can he stay with the expired I-94...... Is there any specific period within which he should get the H1 stamped?
He also filed for a AP.....

He should have gotten a new I-94 with his H1 approval. He can stay until that time. If he did not get a new I-94, then he is considered out of status and should leave the country, get an H1 stamp, and re-enter. No time period to get the H1 stamp other than the expiration date mentioned on the approval notice.
