I got GC recently. What all official things I MUST DO? Register Selective Services?

Hi
Greetings.
I recently Got GC , 2 months back.

What all I need to do after GC? I mean , do I need to inform some officials or register to so and so, etc. If yes, where can I get information and what I need to register?

Do I need to register for selective services, even though I not eligible(my age 30+)? just for records purpose?

I think I need to change my SSN.

what else I am missing? Please explain.

Thanks in advance.

If you are over 26 and register SSS, SSS will send a reply
letter, saying they can not register you.

You don't need to change you SSN. You only need to
update your immigration status with SSA and get
a new SSN card with the same SSN but with work
restriction removed (if there is any).

Other things. update Immi. status with DMV next time
you renew your DL.

Update I-9 with your employer.

thanks for reply.

I still couldn't understand, it seems what you are saying is that I should register(even if I am not eligible), just for records purpose.
is that right? or it that i have a choice of not registering?

I heard on this same board long time back that this registration papers are required later for citizenship etc?

so, I should simply register? I am searching SSS website . there is an online registation also.

You don't have to register because you can not register
since you are too old. If you regsiter anyway, you'll
get a letter saying that you can not register.
So just ignore this Selective service issue.
At natualizatuon, you simply say you did not regieter.
Thr rule is that only male foreigners between 18 and 26
who are green card holders and illegal immigrant need to
registere seletive service.

Now you are over 30 on GC, so you do not need to register.
During the times when you were 18 and 26, were you
ever in the USA illegally? If yes, then you commited a crime
by not regsitering with Seletciev service but it was too late to
corretc. If you were nerver illegal, then do not wroory.

What's the deal with DMV ?

Why register with DMV ? your immi status is not known to them. It's not on DL either. I renewd Alabama-DL a couple of months back when my 485 was still pending. They never asked for anything. Just took picture and I got extended for another 4 years. Could you elaborate why you mentioned DMV ?

MN has passed an executive order (the law got rejected in the legislature) to require DL of non citizens and PRs to carry the date of expiry of the temporary Visa (H1B/F1 etc). Previously they were only noting the information in their records, but now it will be shown on the front of the card. This is likely to lead to a lot of illegals not renewing their DLs.

When most people got their first American DL, the documents
they submited were usually passport and an I-94. So the
immigration status is recorded in that state.

**** once post a report that Florida police and
the INS signed some docuemnt so that Florida police
will impose immigration laws. If you are pulled over
there, the cop may ask for you immigration status.
So if you live in Florida, it may be a good idea
to update you rimmi. status with the DMV
