How long one can stay Outside US while working for a US company
Hi ,
I'm working in India now on deputation for last 4 months. I have payroll running in US. Me and my wife have GCs. Can any one know how long we can stay india in this situation without reentry permit. I dont have reentry permit.I'm working in the same company for its Indian branch. I will appreciate your help. thanks sree

Hello Sree
The general rule is you must apply for Reentry permit while you are in USA, I believe in job situation like yours, you are still treated as US employee working overseas. As long as you are paying Taxes and show proof of residence in USA, you must be fine. The law can be interpreted strictly as you need Reentry permit if you are outside USA for more than 6 months. Rest of them are interpretations and subject to individual cases. However I am not an attorney and please contact your employer to provide you a suitable legal advice. I would like to work in India and would like to have a similar arrangement as you are now. Could you send me your company name and let me find out if there are any suitable positions.
