Lost Green Card

I am a Conditional Green Card Holder. My CG green card expired on 04/03/09 and I got an extension letter. However, about a month ago, I lost it (it went to the garbage together with my passaport and other papers). I never did a police report, since I now how and when it happened. My question is, I need to travel soon, My I-751 is pending, I do have the extension letter which is only valid with the expired GC. Can they stamp my passport or give a letter? Should I schedule a Info pass appointment? will they give me a hard time. I do have a copy of the GC. Please advise. Thank you!

You should still file the police report, because unless the passport was shredded it could currently be in the hands of some fraudster who may use it to travel or get a loan or do something else pretending to be you. If you file the police report it would make it easier to catch him and/or easier for you to defend yourself if you get blamed for his misdeeds.
