Health insurance for international travel

I am planning to go to Europe to visit family members. Now Schengen visa application requires to provide health insurance for medical, emergency, and evacuation service.

I do have health insurance here in USA but I don't think they cover outside USA. Does any one know of a company which provides such a insurance? Google search led to many companies but not sure how many are legitimate.

why dont you call your health insurance company to ask about it?
As I know, most of the health insurance cover international travel. I have had three different health insurance companies in the USA and all of them cover international travel. Call them and ask for a letter state that you are covered and the maximal limit, which is needed to show for visa application.

Probably because medical services in the US are so ridiculously expensive that it's in the insurance company's best interest for you to get ill overseas instead of at home.
