I just filed for 485 , but I forgot to put my birth certificate in
the package, is it better to mail it to them now or should I
wait for them to send me the letter first, thanks.

It seems to be better to wait for an RFE. That way you can include the RFE in your package, and it will actually be connected with your file once it reaches USCIS. If you send it now it is unlikely it will reach your file.
