Finger Printing Notification not yet received

Hi,

I had applied for my EAD and AP along with 485 last year (Aug 2007) and had received them too. This year I applied for a renewal of both of them. EAD was expiring on Oct 24 so applied on Oct 1st 2008.

I did not receive my finger printing notification yet, although the online status says that it has been dispatched. I am leaving out of country on vacation next Thursday. Is there a possibility of getting the finger printing date extended?

I called USCIS, but they do not have the information as to when the finger print date was scheduled. Should I postpone my trip? Or can I just go and when I receive the notification here, I can call USCIS from India and get it extended?

Please advice.

1- Biometrics is for the efile EAD application only (No biometrics for paper based EAD or AP)
2- No specific time to receive the notice, it range from few days to months.
3- It is very short time interval to renew your EAD (less than month), The USCIS recommend 120 days before expiration of the current one. If you use your H visa, you are fine and do not even need to renew the EAD/AP, if not, you may not receive the approval by then.
4- To postpone your trip or not depends on many factor, if you are not H, then you have to have valid unexpired AP till the day of return.
5- To reschedule the biometrics, it is not over the phone, it is by sending the appointment back by mail and request new date. I think will be not easy from overseas (but doable)

As mmd said, there are other factors to be considered to travel abroad.

As far as FP are concerned, you should not worry about missing the date... unless you're going for months. You can take the notice at a later date with expired notice. Also, you lawyer will also get a copy of it. You can direct him what to do.

I am just going for a month and I am going on a valid H1. I still have my H1 for another 3 years, that is why I had applied for renewal of EAD very late.

So, if the FP comes even during my vacation, I can still come back and get it rescheduled and my attorney should help right! Good, then I will not pospone my trip. Funny thing is, my attorney did not tell me this when I asked her several times last week. Infact, no response from her at all.
