Exclamation Green Card to Citizenship

Please advice the duration of time one needs to be in GC status before he/she can apply for US Citizenship. Are there any clear rules or guidelines on this ?

Yes, there are clear guidelines. If you are married to a US citizen as a Permanent Resident (even if you are sponsored by your employer) for three years, you can apply for naturalization three years after becoming a Permanent Resident married to a US citizen. Otherwise, five years.

Your tax record must also be clean. Back in my college days, I had heard of numerous citizenship applicants who were deported because of tax fraud. Of course along with that comes a clean background and criminal history, no felonies etc.
