Hello all I've been in this country for almost 22 yrs, I've been a leagal resident for only 4, ( no I was not illegal here) I married a USA citizen when I was 19, they ( immigration) thought the marriage was illegal, my former husband had numerous problems with the law I was young and naive and married against my parents and pretty much whole family wishes.. they were actually right one month after I divorced him he robbed a convenience store..
![]() ![]() ![]() Immigration pretty much made my life a living hell, I was not illegal but I dint have a GC and of course missed on a lot of family vacations sigh!!my mother became a citizen in 99 and I FINALLY got my green card in 2005, I married a totally different man this time, excellent father and husband he is a citizen also, the day of my interview for my GC, the inspector said that and I quote" they sayd your old record was lost or it could be in a another offce" ![]() ![]() , he went to his supervisor and got the OK for my GC. I could apply for citizenship already I've been married 3 yrs, we have 2 kids, income taxes etc..Should I wait the 5 yrs? Will I have problems because of my previous case?? I have a clean record, not even a speeding ticket or anything bad! sorry for the lengthy post any feedback will be greatly appreciated thanks!!! Rita |

I am confused. If you have been a legal resident for only 4 years out of 22 and were never illegally present, how do you account for the other 18 years? Unless you meant, you have been a legal permanent resident for 4 years?

It seems USCIS has no issues issuing you a GC. Seeing that, I would say, apply for citizenship after three years of marriage or 5 years of PR status, whichever comes sooner.
