European Employer
Indian Citizen and a GC holder for the past 18 months;
Can I take employment with an European corporation in Germany for 2 years (no US Pay) - the company will let me visit their New York office every 5 months for 2 weeks. I will also be spending my 1 month vacation here (altogether 2 months a year stay in the US). After 2 years, I intend to come back to the US and stay for another 1.5 years before applying for naturalization. Do you guys foresee any problem. If so, how can I work around it? Pros: 1) I own property and will rent it. Will be able to show rental income from the US 2) Have credit cards, bank accounts, driver's license from US. 3) Will be able to show utility bills as well 4) Will be buying another property in the US in these 2 years 5) My ex-boss runs a consultancy and can pay me here in the US if I take up some projects for him - helps to show US income besides my rental income. Cons: 1) Work visa stamp from Germany on my passport |

Nobody knows for sure what will happen until you actually go into the interview, but extended overseas employment with a non-US company is a big no-no when it comes to naturalization. You are obviously determined to go ahead with the job anyway, so go ahead and do it and when you apply for citizenship whatever happens will happen and you'll deal with the consequences good or bad.

Proof
Jack - Just curious as to how will they determine I worked in Europe for 2 years (obviously there will be the visa stamp on my passport). I won't do it but technically one could bring a new Indian passport (after renewal) for the interview correct?

You have to file US tax returns for your non-US income, and they will expect you to provide tax transcripts for the interview. And they'll ask what you've been doing outside the US for so long. If you say you haven't been working for all that time, then they'll expect you to provide proof of how you were being financially supported (savings, spouse, whatever).
