2 Yr expiration coming up, questions about renewal

Hi,

I have a 2 yr conditional GC (I think that's what it's called for newlyweds..) that's expiring in August.

Here are some questions: how long wait is there between applying for renewal and getting an interview? I might be moving in the interim, can I request to have my interview in a different state?

I might also be heading overseas with my American wife for sometime, if I come back for the interview could this pose a problem? Are there any solutions in case I will be working overseas for sometime?

Thanks alot!! Dan

Look at form I-751. Send it 90 days before your CGC expires. You most likely don't need a second interview.

Read up on I-751. Less than 10% of jointly filed I-751s are interviewed.

Do I understand correctly that I need to get biometrics done AGAIN when I apply to remove conditions with the I-751?

If I do need it, how long would it take to get my appointment from the time I apply for 751?? Bec. I might be moving out of state so I'm wondering if I would get it in time... Thanks

If you think there is any chance you might be coming back to the US within the next 2 years, I would advise you to remove conditions on your GC, and then apply for an I-131 reentry permit.

At the very least, if you decide not to petition for removal of conditions, you should voluntarily surrender your GC when you leave, rather than simply letting it lapse. If you don't do that, you could be making it much more difficult to get a new GC at some point in the future.
