shocking to me. plz help

OK, so me and my best friend of 16 YEARS have this conversation the other day, and he tells me that he's an illegal alien..... i didn't believe him at first cause i have known him forever, after the tears and such i started to believe him, and listen to his story, and I told him I would do whatever it took to help him.

Supposedly his parents moved to the US when he was four years old, legally with passports and such, and then i guess never renewed their visa's or whatever they had given them at the time. So about a few years ago his parents finally tell him "whats up" and he was shocked just like I am now.

He's been living in the US for over 20 years now, he's just a regular guy, doesn't look foreign at all or anything... so I'm trying to help him out by posting on here to see if there is anything he can do. I know he wont post up anything cause he's scared to post things about this subject or even to talk about it at that, but I'm not..ha, so I'm trying to help him out.

He's got a really good life here, a finance, a few pets, and so forth.... and he's been getting along fine without it but he says there are sooo many things he can't do, which i guess i could imagine without proper papers..

He said he tried to look up amnesty laws online but nothing he can find, I mean he's been here for over 20 years....there has to be something he can do to get legal status.

any help or links or anything would be much appreciated.

thank you

Actually thought about something else, since they are engaged couldn't he get status though marriage?

I have heard of such things, but I'm not to sure on the subject.

If he's engaged with a USC, yes he can. If not, it looks like he has no other choice but to find someone to marry him...

Does he have proof of legal entry (e.g. passport stamp and/or I-94)? If not, he may have issues applying for AOS once he marries a USC. (I vaguely recall there might be a waiver needed, but I can't remember which form.)

He is from wales (UK) and I'm not too sure about his wedding, he said he wanted to wait in the summer cause they wanted to have it on the beach.

And for the foreign thing that you wanted me to explain, all I meant is by that you could put him in a room and you wouldn't be able to point him out at all, he looks 100% American, like I said at first I didn't believe him at all when he told him, but I'm trying to do whatever now to help my best bud out.

So, he is now 24 years old. Is he working ? if so, how did he get employed w/o document ? SSN ?

your friend missed the amnesty train in 2001. next one is not scheduled, and only marriage to USC is the only way to legaliz himself for now.

Ok, thats good. Assuming he marries a US citizen, his wife will be able to file for I-130/I-485 and he will be forgiven the overstay and illegal employment.

Better make sure he doesn't get picked up by ICE before he gets married and files for AOS.

Hopefully the passport has an entry stamp or I-94.

Got caught after 12 years by the ICE. They came looking for my brother who was out of status for seven years. These guys work in mysterious ways. Showed up at 5.30am in the morning in my house fully armed.

Don't rule out the possibility that someone informed ICE about him.

Now a new question to add, since he is gonna get married soon, how would they go about doing it? Usually when you get married at the court house they need "info" on the two, don't they?

and...

If it all does go though, about what kind of ETA is it after filing for a 1-130

I can recommend some good biology books.

It probably varies by state. I can tell you how it works here in the State of Texas for example ... you go to the county clerk's office and purchase a marriage license, for which you fill out a form with a bunch of biographic information. Then, no less than 72 hours later in Texas, you can get married by a Justice of the Peace (or another person who can officiate a wedding in Texas such as ordained ministers for a religious ceremony). Then, you or the officiant sends the completed marriage certificate back to the county clerk's office and they sign to make it official and enter you into the county's marriage registry. For our county, this is public information - in fact I can see my marriage certificate online just by entering my name.

I would assume they file concurrently I-130/I-485, in which case it will take anywhere from 4 months to several years depending on the circumstances (if they move, etc.). According to USCIS policy, the adjudication will not be delayed anymore for pending name checks, so I'd say it will probably take 4-8 months if there are no delays.
