Overseas Travel and PP Stamping

Hi all,
I've had my PR card for 4 years and this is the first time I have travelled overseas to China and returned and my trips normally involve only going to Canada. Upon arrival in Seattle, the DHS looked at my PR card then stamped my passport with an "admitted" and class "ARC". Is this normal? I know that ARC is Alien Resident Card and I am only asking as a curiosity if other green card holders get this.
Thanks,
Rafiq
