GC Processing on my own - Family based.
I'm in US on L1 visa. I want my brother, who's a US citizen to sponsor my Green Card. Few queries:
1) Would this hamper employer based GC in any ways if my present company sponsors my GC say after 2 years? In other words, does personal GC processing in any ways effects employer based GC processing in future (both going simultaneously - in case my employer wants to file later-on which anyways would take less time than personal GC)? 2) How much time approximately it takes for this kind of personal GC processing. Are there different types of them - premium etc? 3) How much is the fee 4) Any other complications? Any help in this regards is appreciated. Regards, Anurag. |

it would take about 18 years for you to get a GC through your brother.

You can get a family based application started by having your brother file an I-130 which has a $355 fee. This will not give you any benefit for 12-22 years depending on where you're from. It will also not allow you to get a nonimmigrant visa in the future (other than dual intent - L1, H1 etc).
I think from a practical perspective it makes more sense to focus on your EB application, but your brother's FB petition could serve as a backup. You may want to get the EB application started with a labor certification to lock in your priority date because there's a long backlog.

To judge how long the GC sponsorship will take, look at the current visa bulletin from the link below (family, forth preference).
