Sad situation, answers appreciated
I am posting this for a friend of mine.
He applied GC for his father. His father has a interview in a few days. Yesterday he got arrested for shoplifting. They say it was a huge misunderstanding, hired a criminal lawyer, and are confident this will go away. They dont have a immigration lawyer. Filed GC themselves. Questions is: 1. Should they postpone his interview or just go there and not mention about that case. 2. If he geta a GC, what are the consequences of not mentioning the arrest? 3. Any consequences at the airport re entries when he travels abroad and back? 4. If he mentions the arrest and say the case is pending in court, what would happen. 5. If they just postpone the interview and wait for the case to go away, what reason can be given got postponing. Thanks |

4) as far as I know, since it's not a felony, there should be no consequences, if the punishment is under a year in jail. |

The value of the goods being shoplifted, doesn't that also factor in?

don't know, but sometimes the store will drop the charges if you pay them back or persuade them otherwise.
