About to marry a USC, but I am Canadian
My boyfriend just asked me to marry him. I am Canadian, and he is a USC.
What are the steps needed to take to become a USC? |

I think this question is going to get more answers if you post it in the marriage based immigration forum. I know there is some people in this forum with that kind of knowledge, but you'll definitely get a better perspective in the other forum.

The first step towards becoming a USC is to become a legal permanent resident (LPR). There are a couple of ways of doing this, and the first step somewhat dictates the rest of the process.
Depending whether you intend to marry in the US or Canada, may influence whether you decide to go through K-1 (fiancee) or K-3 (spouse) visa, or get married first and follow regular I-130 + consular processing. If you are already in the US, you may wish to remain in country, get married here and apply directly for I-130/I-485 through the adjustment of status route. Once you become a GC holder, you will be able to apply for removal of conditions near the 2yr mark, and USC after 3 years. |

You and your fiance' need to read up the "How do I..." pages at http://www.uscis.gov. Then if you have specific questions, come back for clarification.
