Placed Stop payment on EAD: Received Invoice

Friends,

Since GC is approved, placed a Stop payment on the EAD I had sent few days before .

Now, I received an invoice for the fee+penalty. When spoke to them, they asked me to send in a dispute if wanted and see what happens. They wouldnt send to Claims Department immediately.

Should I write an explanatory letter, attaching GC OR just send in the money and forget about it !!

Please suggest !!

Are you crazy?

You are not supposed to put a stop payment on a check that the recipient has been authorized to cash/deposit. Otherwise, you can be prosecuted for writing a bad check.

For EAD, you should tell USCIS that you are withdrawing the application and ask them to return the check and all paperwork... don't do a stop payment.

You better pay. You have no case.

I am not

I am in my perfect sense buddy. As soon as GC was approved, I called twice(to double confirm) Immigration office.

both of them told (by looking into their documents) that it is perfectly alright and normal procedure to place a stop on payment. They just requested that I write a letter to them, explaining the reason.

Anyways, I paid the fee+fine over phone.

If USCIS said it is fine then you are OK with them. The bank is a different story.
