Reentry Permit Required... Rumor or Real

Guys,
I went to buy airline tickets to travel to my home country around December 2007. The agent asked me for my reentry permit. I told her that I would only go for 3 weeks so I didn't need any reentry permit. She told me the law will change at the time I travel and reentry permit will be required for all GC holders to travel no matter how long of the trip is.

Is this for real ????

Thanks.

Nope

I guess the agent is like one who knows bits and pieces of some info and tries to bluff. May be he is a fortune teller.

Nonsense. Ask her if she wants to sell the tickets or not. There are plenty of other travel agents who have a clue and would love your business.

I think this is a scam.....a friend of mine told me the same thing....
He was working through an indian travel agent, for a four week trip to India. The travel agent wanted my friend to apply for a reentry permit through them...and charge him over a thousand dollars for that. This was his first trip after fours years of getting his green card. I just though it was one crook travel agent, but this leads me to believe that there are more travel agencies scaring and scamming people.

That's pure nonsense. Very often travel agents (and even airline employees) do not have a clue about the requirements.

I would avoid buying from an agent who spreads baseless rumors.

Thanks guys for clearing thing up.

Actually, when I was talking with the agent, I thought the same thing that this was nonsense. Yet, she actually refused to sell the ticket without me having a re-entry permit. That made me a bit confused since she would gain nothing for making this stuff up. Anyway, I will go to another one to buy my ticket. Thanks

Don't tell the next travel agent about your immigration status. If they ask, just say that you here legally and already have all your papers in order, without giving any specifics.

Travel with GC

For clarification, what are the docs required when u travel to India. At POE what should we prepare for? Do we need a transit visa when u r traveling thro' London with GC.

I assume you are Indian. Just carry your passport and GC (the physical card) if you have one and that should be it. And no, you don't need a transit visa for London.
