Application for Parents

I just want to know if I become a citizen, how can I apply green card for my parents? How long does it take to complete the whole process? Is there a priority date for parents? Thanks a lot.

Read the stickies... search the forum... read a couple of posts... you will find your answers if you seek for them.

Yes, you can apply for your parents provided that you are 21 or over. Your parents are qualified as immediate relatives of a US Citizen, meaning they don't have to wait for a visa number once the application is approved. The time it takes to process the case depends on the Service Center. For this particular case, the California Service Center is moving about six months faster than the Vermont Service Center. This case can take between a year to a year and half.

If this new bill goes through, I think they are changing this.

Thanks a lot. Looks like I-130 and I-485 can be concurrently filed to save time. So the entire timespan means processing I-485, is it correct?

Just wonder what will happen if the bill goes through and I submitted the applications for my parents after May 2005 and my parents are here in the US already (AOS):

1. Do they have to leave the country?
2. Do they have to re-apply?
3. What happen to the application fee that was submitted?
4. Can they still leave US using AP? (I-131)

Please point me to the right post if this has been discussed before.

Thank you in advance.

"The Senate proposal also invalidates family-based visa applications submitted after May 2005, affecting an estimated 833,000 pending applications. A Senate amendment is pending to address the "cut-off" date and move it to Jan. 1, 2007. On Wednesday, the Senate rejected a bid by Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., to change the deadline.

So, if the bill passes as is, any immigration application for parents filed after May 2005 will be subject to quotas included in the bill. Is that correct?

BTW, it looks like the bill might not pass after all. Immigration Bill Suffers Setback in Senate Vote : http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/07/wa...-immig.html?hp

You can file I-485 only if your parents are here, in States.
