leaving after interview

Am i right in assuming that the green card is for re-entry back to the us? So therefore if i have had my interview (june 4th) am i free to leave and re-enter once my green card has arrived and is then forwarded to me? This is of course assuming i do not get stamped at the interview.

Thanks

You could go to the Consular in the country you are travelling to, for a stamp on your passport, because you will need to board most airlines on your way back. The safer thing is to go back and get a stamp on your passport at your DO before you travel. It saves you the time of having to go to an embassy in a foreign country, which might be a pain.
