Status of H1-B after getting Green Card

Hi folks,
my H1-B is still valid for another one year.
If I get my green Card today, will my H1-B become automatically invalid?
Or do I have choice to still use it, before I officially switch to Green Card?
If so, how do I switch to Green Card? using it for job? or using it during travel?

a bundle of thanks in advance for replies.

When they stamped my passport, they took my H-1B stubs because I don't need it anymore. Why would you want to still use your H-1B anyway when you have green card? I assume they will automatically cancel your H-1B status when they change your status to permanent resident.

thanks for help. there can be number of scenarios where one can need this.
like if somebody is travelling abroad on H-1, and his GC gets approved. will he be able to get back to USA on H-1 or not?
or does he need someone to fetch his GC?
Actually I am planning to travel too :-)

Listen to recorded conf call from Mar 8. There was an answer for your question from Mr. Khanna.

If GC is approved while you are not in US, then you can enter using your valid visa or parole.

Hi all,

Yesterday my GC was mailed and by next week hopefully it will reach me. Now what should I do with I-94 (I know it does become invalid) and H-1B since it is valid till end of this year 2007. Simply keep them with me and while travelling abroad we can hand in at the airport while getting the boarding pass? Any feedback is appreciated
